The Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) for individual and family medical insurance plans mandated by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will be November 1, 2018 through December 15, 2018 for 2019 plans. BCBSNC will be the only consumer insurance carrier in our region for 2019. The benefit designs have higher out-of-pocket costs than plans before the ACA, and unless one qualifies for assistance to pay the premiums– called a subsidy or advance premium tax credit– insurance costs are higher than ever before.
With the health insurance new enrollments and renewals all occurring at the same time each year across the US, obviously customer service suffers, which means we all suffer. The Marketplace does not seem to be concerned about that, as their representatives read scripts that may or may not apply to the consumer. PLEASE do yourself a favor and use a local insurance agent.
